TeensGive.org is a nonprofit organization designed to provide service opportunities for high school students who are looking for rewarding ways to volunteer. Started in 2015 by two high school juniors in Westchester, New York, Helena Zimmerman and Max Mindich. While trying to find ways to volunteer, Max and Helena discovered a problem that needed to be solved. Thier research confirmed that there was a lack of volunteer options for high school students looking to use their skills have a direct connection with the people they are helping.
TeensGive.org has grown to over 3,000 members from 40 states. Thanks to the prize money won at business competitions, along with grants from Google, the E.E. Ford Foundation, and Kidbacker, TeensGive is a self-sustaining social enterprise run by Helena and Max, as well as dozens of classmates, interns, and volunteers. The company has developed a menu of options for teens to provide academic enrichment to underserved communities across the country, both in-person and virtually. By connecting members with students attending after-school programs at Title 1 schools, high school students can use their academic skills to provide free tutoring. Our virtual sessions are conducted throughout the country by over 100 volunteers. Finally, thanks to a grant Helena received from the E.E. Ford Foundation, volunteers can now teach a fun entrepreneurship curriculum, Counting Cupcakes, which Helena designed and taught in Port Chester, New York this past summer.
